Wildifres Down Under (Erik Taira)

Smoke blown by the wind
The day has become night
Scattering turned to red from green
Captured by the satellites

Grey skies from the east
Headed towards the south
Fluctuating ashes cast shadows
Upon skyscrapers downtown
Laid on the burnt black ground

Bring the rain, make it rain
Pray for the clouds to come
Fall the longed-for droplets
Sprout the seeds on this land
When this wild rage is all gone

Some have chosen to stay
Shield their land with their lives
Heroes wearing no capes have given
All for others to survive

Creatures fled across the bush
Seeking somewhere safe to go
Chirping birds are not perching bottle trees
Couldn’t jump up the fence poor little Joe

There’s nothing to celebrate
In the new year to come
People expect the loud bangs
While others don’t have no home.
