My royal icing recipe uses meringue powder in place of egg whites so it will remain fresh and ready to use for a long time as long as it's kept in an airtight container.

The gingerbread dough is delightful to work with, won't spread while it's baking and tastes delicious (especially when paired with the royal icing).
