If I remember correctly, the Kirby lore is that Metaknight hated how lazy Dreamland was and how any threat that would attack it would kinda just steamroll everyone- so he tries to train everyone Roby Rotten style by declaring WAR ON A PLANET.

Ironically enough- his worry comes true (constantly) but most importantly in Planet Robobot when the Haltman company invades the planet and robotocizes it in nearly 5 minutes.

This is EXACTLY how I pictured Metaknight puncturing Kirby as a kid. That sword should go through him so easily if Kirby wasn't always inhaling things.

My headcanon has always been that Meta Knight is more getting revenge on Dedede and how he handled the situation with Nightmare. While Dedede sort of took the easy way out by just breaking up the Star Rod, Meta Knight would likely rather just fight Nightmare directly, had he been given the choice. Perhaps Dedede didn’t tell him why he had to protect a piece of the Star Rod and after learning the truth he wants to put an end to his lazy way of handling situations.
