Thanks for making discord I don't know what I do without. I've made a private server for my family & friends. I can sit in my private server all day under voice chat & if someone comes in while I'm doing RL I can just say hello, it really help me because I was born handicapped. I just can't thank -you enough for making discord like you have.

Great context for learning discord.. I'm about to engage with a patreon group for the first time, tonight. Next I'd like to see if some arts communities have servers here, and it might be a good platform for people taking online classes. I'm very excited about the possibilities. Hope it doesn't turn people off, but I'm 66 and retiring in 3 weeks. Super excited by this platform.

in brief:
This video discusses the rise of Discord, an app created by co-founders Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, which has grown from 0 to 140 million active users per month.
Initially designed for gamers, Discord has expanded to various communities such as cryptocurrency, street fashion, and more.
The app provides free voice, video, and text chat options within communities called "servers" and has easy-to-use features.
Discord started gaining traction when users from Reddit's gaming communities joined the platform, and its growth continued with the rise of e-sports and Twitch streaming.
The app's popularity further increased with the integration of Patreon and the launch of the game "Among Us."

Discord's revenue primarily comes from its subscription service, Nitro, which offers additional features and improved streaming quality.
The company is valued at $15 billion, and despite acquisition interest from companies like Microsoft, it plans to go public in 2022. Discord has faced challenges with problematic content and competition from larger companies, but it has established a Trust and Safety team and continues to maintain a loyal fanbase.

The future of Discord involves making the platform more accessible to a wider user base and exploring new revenue streams.

With the 'Stage Discovery' feature, professional streamers can monetize their content, and more celebrities are expected to use this feature.

Discord plans to introduce in-house games with small purchases, generating more revenue.

Its partnership with Sony, which allows users to connect Discord to their consoles, is another significant step that will help Discord establish itself in the console gaming industry.

Discord has evolved into a market leader in online communications, catering to communities beyond gaming, and is worth billions.
