The UK's Challenger 2 tank has blasted away the competition in Nato's Exercise Iron Spear.

The armoured vehicle competition for main battle tanks, held in Estonia, saw a Challenger 2 tank, from the Queen's Royal Hussars beat a German Leopard 2 tank, operated by Spanish personnel and the third-placed American M1 Abrams crew.

Major Anthony Kaulback, Chief of Staff for the enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup in the country, said the regiment was one of those who had donated Challenger 2 tanks to Ukrainian personnel to use in their fight against Russia.

More than the tank, this is testament to the sheer quality of British tank crewmen. Respect and congrats from a brother across the pond 🇺🇸💪🏻🇬🇧
Oh and also congrats to the Spanish crew that achieved second place!

What kills me is that the Brit’s actually put a built in kettle in their tank, 😂. Gotta love them

one of the most important components of a tank is the crew, which speaks highly of the UK training and overall competency as well as design

They couldn't have done it without their Boiling Vessel.

Got to be honest all Nato tanks and crews are top tier nowadays. I cant imagine the dread any enemy would feel seeing Challengers, Abrams, Leopards and Leclerc's rolling towards them. Super proud of our lad's and all Nato crews.

This is the best competition, with a deserved win. Crgoatiulations from Germany to you! Push the boundaries and push all to become as good as you, inside nato.

The UK's army is currently the smallest it has ever been since the Napoleonic Wars. It's good to see a modern army not need millions of men to prove itself to be deadly, effective and well trained. Love from France

Well done Britain. Proud to be a Brit. Given the cuts to the armed forces, imagine what these lads could do with proper funding! Hazaar!

just goes to show that the UK has one of the best tanks in the world but you can also chalk it up to the training of the UK tank crews as well.

The Challenger scored the longest tank-vs-tank kill in history (1991), and another Challenger tank absorbed the most hits from enemy fire = 70 RPGs of various generations + 1 Milan ATGM, without being put out of commission. Since the British invented the "tank", it's only fitting that they'd still have the best tank in the world.

Can we be clear about this. The British Challenger is a very good tank. The American Abrams is a very good tank. The German Leopard is a very good tank. The French Leclerc is a very good tank. NATO members work alongside each other, not against each other!

I was attached to the Queens Own Hussars, (one of the forerunners of the QRH) in the early '80's when they were equipped with Chieftain. QOH were selected to represent the UK at the bi-annual CAT (Canadian Army Tank shoot), the NATO MBT shooting competition in 1981. The countries involved were, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Canada, USA & UK. Unfortunately the UK came 5th out of six. However there was no slight against the crews, they were very highly trained and equally highly motivated. The chieftain was much lauded at the time but suffered with many defects.
Advance 40 years and it just goes to show how technology has progressed since 1981. Well done to the Queens Royal Hussars.
As an aside, I consider myself very lucky to have been REME attached to the Queens Own Hussars, the finest cavalry

The Challenger 2 never lost a fight. Except one time. When it was shot by accident from another Challenger 2.

Proud ex REME gun fitter watching this. I even served with the QRH in 1996 at Bos Petrovic, Bosnia when the troubles were going on down there. We were based in an old scrap car compound. I still remember the grass fires in May & every once in a while it would set a land mine off!
