“£4.2 Million Wasted” Russia's Brag as UK Confirms Challenger 2 Tank's First Combat Loss in Ukraine

UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed that a British Challenger 2 battle tank has been destroyed in Ukraine. It’s said to be the first reported destruction of the coveted battle tank in the model’s nearly 30 years of being in service.
"I can confirm, that is correct. It may be the first loss as far as we are aware," the newly-appointed UK defence secretary told Sky News. “We accept that in the war zone, there can be material losses”, Shapps said, adding that London is not planning to replace the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy in the UK shared a picture of the destroyed tank from its X handle and wrote in the caption “Wasted.” The picture also mentioned that the destruction of the Challenger 2 tank has cost the UK taxpayers 4.2 million pounds.

£4.2m is the cost of a brand new Challenger 3. However this tank started life about 20 years ago. Now, because of depreciation it’s original purchase value has been long since written down and is now worth a few £100k as either a museum piece or scrap. Much better to send if off to Ukraine to enable it to destroy much newer T90’s, T72 and T80, along with BMP4, TOS systems, etc, etc. I’m only disappointed they haven’t sent more. The British tax payer is getting value for money, plus these tanks will still be replaced with Challenger 3’s.

On day 560 of the 3 day special operation, Russian forces destroyed a Challenger 2 tank. Russian news reports say that the turret didn't successfully reach orbit unlike the superior T72 turrets.
