The first and greatest commandment in Christian dating — for you and your significant other — is the same as in all of life: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30).

But after you’ve embraced, applied, and enjoyed the first and greatest commandment, the golden rule in dating is this:

Lean hard on the people who know you best, love you most, and will tell you when you’re wrong.
We need friends who love God even more than they love us. Only people who love Christ more than they love you will have the courage to tell you that you’re wrong in dating — and give you the encouragement, truth, wisdom, and perspective you need.

I think it is important when we are in friendships with the opposite gender to guard our hearts. I was recently friends with someone who indicated that he liked me and I was really praying about it, but suddenly he just got into a relationship with another girl. I pray and ask that all brothers in Christ would be careful with how they treat their sisters--caring for their hearts and not leading them into false hope (if they aren't interested in a relationship). I know sisters in Christ should do the same but men are the pursuers in this area.

Good insight on this issue of dating and relationships. When there is no intentionality in expanding our walk with Jesus Christ, it is impossible to commit to a selfless, dedicated relationship with a significant other. May Christ always be the center: our needs and expectations be laid at the His feet.

I waited 3 yrs and was engaged to a man of God and then when I got with him he flipped and was abusive. He did introduce me to John Piper though and for that I'm thankful. After six yrs total I feel hopeless to find a true man of God. Please pray for me 😭

I know as a Christian I have often struggled with dating because although I’d love to be in a Godly relationship I’ve often felt either unworthy of a Godly woman or like dating would be a strain on my relationship with God. I’ve never had a situation where I’ve felt that God truly was OK for me to date someone, even when there have been Christian women I’ve liked very much and I knew liked me too. I’ve abstained from dating and honestly have started to think that maybe I’m just not meant to marry

Swallow your pride and listen to the people that are coming to you and bringing up whatever potential issue. They love you and they do want what is best for you and it is absolutely their business too. You are a part of their life therefore you are their business. Listen to what they are saying. Take your defenses down, step on your pride and listen to those that genuinely care about you. Its very possible they see something you dont or are trying to ignore/hide from. Faithful are the wounds of a friend.

I think humility is one reason it is hard to find a good Christian marriage partner. The guys tend to think that they are too unworthy to ask out good Christian women, and Christian women have such low self esteem that that don't think they are worthy to accept an invitation to a date.

Humility makes us shine in Heaven but it can be a real barrier to accomplishing much in this life.

I would not trust my family, I did that with my first wife. They encouraged me to marry her, I wish I hadn't listened to them, she was a wolf in sheep's clothing, a narcissist. I should have listened to my gut not friends and family who where taken in by her fake charms. Pray everyday and listen to the spirit of God.
