They most certainly DO KNOW when it happens. I've been in hospice care for a few decades and ALL of my clients' dogs howled between 15 minutes bore they die to 1 hour afterwards. its quite beautiful. As if they are singing our souls goodbye...

A friend of the family passed away and his dog cried and wouldn't leave the front of the coffin, he cried himself to sleep in front of the grave. That dog showed more emotion then most humans I know.

My mom witnessed something like this happen when they were putting her friends dog to sleep at their home. When the dog passed, the other dog started howling in that exact moment and everyone started crying.

This dog knew exactly what happended. When dogs die, they like to find a quiet, enclosed space to pass away, usually hidden from everyone. This dog, knowing that his friend was not well, noticed that he was gone for a long time and realized that he went somewhere to pass away.

I know this because I've had so many outdoor dogs in my lifetime and my heart drops if I'm outside and I don't see them for 30 min. At that moment, I walk around our garden, checking underneath every tree and behind every pot, and usually find my dogs wedges somewhere. I had a dog we had to put down due to cancer. We tried to keep him comfy in a bed, hoping he would get better, but we knew it was over when he wedged himself behind a pot despite not getting up for several days. He was 12 years old so he lived a long, I hope happy life. RIP. 🥺❤️
