Bruce did not move away from Wing Chun he continued to incorporate what was useful and discarded that which was not. Bruce can be considered the grand father of modern mixed martial arts. His philosophy is based in not omitting oneself to the rigid closed system of any style, instead incorporating a styles benefit to one’s own capabilities. Do not waste time on what is useless!

Bruce had a great foundation of Wing-Chun and he still utilized the principles in his own martial arts, trapping hands, the foot work, etc. He knew for combat MMA as we know it now would be the way to go hence why Jeet Kune Do applied alot of jiu-jutsu, boxing, etc
