I love that even though this kid is dropping out of school and Joe can't save him, he respects him enough to say goodbye and let him know he impacted him I'm some form. Everyone can't be saved, but it's always worth trying.

This scene was probably a way for Mr. Clark to realize that no matter how hard he tries, and as many as he can save, he can't save them all.

" you'll be dead in a year son, you hear what I'm saying..you'll be dead in a year" Saddest but truest line😔

When a student gives up, drops out or even says good bye, it's one of the saddest things a teacher can hear. Sadly you can't save everyone.

You can tell he deeply cared about the kid. You can’t save everybody.

He’s right. When you decide to go down that path as a drug dealer, there’s only two ways your life can go. Prison or death.

Saying “you’d be dead in a year” was the last card he had to play to make him stay

Man....the emotions Morgan Freeman exerted seeing the young guy walk off like that....powerful! You can see the care, hurt and worry in his eyes.

Kid Ray actor crushed that scene. Those eyes said it all. He knew Mr. Clark was right, but he was already in too deep. He no longer had a choice. His debts had to be paid.

It hits hard....to see him accept his fate, he knows mr Clark is right and still walks away.

I had a tough time in my Senior year. Personal problems and a couple of teachers and administrators who couldn't have cared less. But there was one teacher, my English teacher Mrs. Robinson. Who wanted me to graduate so bad she allowed me to take my finals on a day I was suspended from school. And I know for a fact she passed me based on effort and not on grades. She was so happy for me when I received my Diploma. She saw more value in it than I did at the time. I've never forgotten that, I've never forgotten her. She helped me get out.

I wish I had people like Mr. Clark in my life when I was in even though he was really harsh on the kids you could tell he really did care for them

This was during the height of the Crack epidemic sadly a lot of Black and Latino Youth chose Fast Money of Crack dealing over school and so many ended up dead or in Jail. I grew up in Oakland Ca when this movie came out and all I can tell you I seen first hands the effects of the Crack epidemic in my old neighborhood. Good movie I seen it many times.

This scene always stuck with me - I get emotional every time I see it. That feeling when as much as you wanna reach out and make a connection - some people just can't hear you and you lose them. Powerful powerful scene.

This reminds me of when I was in high school and quit the basketball team. My school guidance counselor said "If you quit now, you'll keep quitting the rest of your life". I dropped out of high school. Never get a job longer than 3 months til I was 21. It took me until my late 30s until I was able to not get frustrated give up & quit. I thought my guidance counselor just "didn't understand" how unfair my high school basketball coach was being. The truth is I didn't do all I could to be the best player I could be. I shouldn't of dismissed my guidance counselor's keen advice. I paid a heavy price for doing that.
