Episode 203: Treatment Of Anemia - Iron Rich Foods for Kidney Disease. One of the first symptoms people with chronic kidney disease may experience is a drop in energy. This can be a sign that anemia has developed; one of the most common effects of CKD. Eating iron-rich foods is a great way for CKD patients to keep anemia from worsening.

Anemia is a common symptom of low kidney function and treatment of anemia is important for energy and health. Anemia is a condition in which your blood has a lower-than-normal amount of red blood cells or hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the iron-rich protein that allows red blood cells to carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. With fewer red blood cells or less hemoglobin, your tissues and organs—such as your heart and brain—may not get enough oxygen to work properly. This will cause extreme fatigue and weakness. Eating iron-rich foods is one part of treatment of anemia for kidney disease patients. Renal dietitian Jen Hernandez of Plant-Powered Kidneys shares her tips and iron-rich foods for CKD patients.

Jen will discuss:

Hello, I'm in the UK, diagnosed with CKD stage 3 a so not too serious I guess, just that being a NHS patient we don't get watched over so well unfortunately, I have to wait a year to find out if it's got worse, im on a plant based diet now but the not knowing for a year is pretty rubbish, I just hope I'm eating and doing the right things, it's like trying to see your way in the dark and scary 😳.
