A week long vlog of me *attempting* to write my sci-fi novel! Here's to hoping things only get easier from here. It's the effort that counts, right? (God I hope so)

the whole beginning. is me. literally me. mostly because i wrote the first draft ish thing when i was 13. i am now older than that and definitely a better writer. i wrote it way too fast and without any planning. since then, i’ve basically scrapped the entire plot lmao. i have been so scared of starting the new first draft but it’s my goal that by the end of this year i have the first draft. it’s going to be bad. it’s going to be awful. but whatever. my first quarter is finishing my planning and then the rest of the year is writing! hopefully i can do that, and i wish you all the luck on your book :) sorry for the rant lol

I’m honestly sensing that the best way for you to tackle this idea is by pantsing and then “reverse outline.” Sometimes the best way to figure a story out is to just DO it and then in the second draft you’ll turn the idea into an actual, workable novel.

This honestly resonates with me as someone who aspires to be a writer but cannot stay focused on one thing as I have so many things I want to write but I hope u post more videos about anything really not just book related I love ur vibe<33

This is so relatable starting something just to hate it 🥲 the best advice I’ve ever heard on this is from Dan Brown. He said something to the effect of “writing a book always gets tedious so it’s easy to fall out of love. The thing that can keep you engaged is setting it in a world you’re already obsessed with. That will keep you coming back.” That advice got me to change my novel from a YA Adventure to an espionage novel. Big difference for sure, but I still love it and I’ve worked on it for multiple years now. Best of luck!!

The last date stamp is definitely supposed to say Friday December 15th but oh well 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s a good reflection of my mental stability by the end of this video

I appreciate this vlog so much. I always got so mad at myself when I would organically realize something that would change everything and render all my previous chapters useless. It’s comforting to know that it’s all part of the creative process

DO NOT OUTLINE! I found that on first draft I do tent posts, the 2-5 visions I have for the story, then I do a sloppy fast run from beginning to end simply seeing if I can hang a tent off of those posts. Doing this will typically reveal all the stuff that I conceptually missed or will reveal ideas that will make it better without spending huge amounts of time and effort. The things that are important are the ideas. Scenes and characters will evolve and do things that are often impossible to foresee. Outlines lie to you because they promise things that they rarely ever deliver. Writing is chaos until it isn’t.

I used to hate my stories and I'm slowly being OK with it.

ive never seen a writing vlog before this one but there needs to be more because this is giving me life (or maybe there shouldnt be more because binging them would be one more way to procrastinate writing)

oh my gosh Gina PLEASE continue to write this book!! With all the opinion i've seen from you with reading, I trust that you will write such an engaging and well thought out story. I am SO excited to even know the slightest sliver of detail of the plot or vibe or even the cover of this book. GOOD LUCK.

We are on a similar journey right now! I'm also documenting my writing process lol Trying to finish a book and get it published within a year and let me tell you.. staying focused on one singular project is so freaking hard! I can't wait to see where this leads you! <3 Subscribed.

The first few words is literally what I said about a book called the clue and I realized how bad it is when I was at over 7 thousand words its literally about 10 people stuck in a room and at 15 thousand words Luna was supposed to be killing people but in the mean time before that the only thing that was happening was "this is so boring I will never get my manicure for my nails"

If writing does not come easily, you probably have the wrong topic or wrong vibe. So, best is to write things very close to your heart and close to home, e.g. your daily life, memories, thoughts and all your ruminations. Of course, make it more general, spice it up, make it more interesting, don't just complain about your life situation.

Put in some humour. Put in some very original words and thoughts. Put in beauty and awe. I use 33%epic, 33% dialogue and 33% lyric/poetic wording in every paragraph.

I think this is the recipe of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Haruki Murakami, Cormac McCarthy also.

Good luck to you all tragic struggling writers out there.

Heyy one thing I think helps if you are uninspired to write is creating a Pinterest board for your story, or even a Spotify playlist

I'm trying to do a SF short and the amount of research you need to do is crazy, feel you
