The shortage of affordable housing in the U.S. is in crisis due to high interest rates, and low home availability. HUD is trying to help by funding programs to build affordable homes. However, rising land and building costs have made it harder to build enough homes. Manufactured homes and modular can be cheaper, but getting loans for them can be tough. Renters are also struggling as rents have gone up a lot. HUD's Housing Trust Fund helps create affordable rental units, but issues are with ensuring the funds are used correctly. HUD's programs must keep improving to meet the growing demand for affordable housing.

It’s so annoying when people say oh it depends. How are people supposed to budget if we can’t get a ballpark at least offer the cheapest you’ve ever seen and the most expensive you ever seen. We don’t know to budget for 25k or 200k. It’s not helpful.

Great points Kristina! There seems to be a lack of consistency in many "tiny homes", which is giving them a questionable image. These can be built to a standard for design, for codes and specs, and we need to provide it. Houses on wheels may have issues when tires rot, and not always 'welcome'.
Installers should be trained by the manufacturer. Elliptical must be UL approved. I've seen units coming in from other countries with frightening wiring!

This is an affordable solution for modern living.

I remember hurricane Andrew in the Miami area and all the houses in the whole subdivision were completely removed and all you saw was the slabs but there was one remaining that was a log home still standing in perfect condition

Doing appraisals for a number of years we complete a form to give to the bank indicating how many houses are in the market and the consumption rate for that market

All states should give utmost priority to socialized housing through the construction of tiny homes for homeless and low income families. There are so many idle lands that can be developed for such purpose.

Manufactured homes have a HUD sticker on the side that says it meets the minimum requirements for an FHA loan
