Affordable housing crisis advocates meet in Miami

Miami-Dade officials met with affordable housing advocates to discuss solutions to the lack of it in South Florida.

I bought a four unit building in 2011. It was a total fixer upper. I used the VA loan to purchase it and renovated it with the money I saved from being in Iraq for almost two years. It was 454k. People can afford a home but you’re going to have to be creative. That building is now worth 1.2 million and nets me 7k a month in rent. I still own it.

Its amazing how they think this is going to resolve the problem. All this is coming from compounded issues. Florida licenses Public adjusters and how insurance is suppose to work. yet it not a hidden thing. Public adjusters don't fix a problem they created the problem. Creating suits for instance a wall was damaged in a room well get the instrance to pay for fixing and painting all 4 walls. A tile is off the roof well get your insurance to pay for a whole new roof. In the meantime they are taking a fee from the work done to put together a list of items to be repairs in your home that shoudl have been fixed as a general maintenance. Todays society doesn't shell out money for epairs they sue their insurance companies. Insurance is suppose to put you back where you were before the loss, not with money in your pocket or more than what is called for. If the States would crack down on these things it would help, but everytime politicians try to do something they make it worse, look at the health care industry its way over inflated thats why many have taken to vacation in foreign countries where medical care is much cheaper and I mean much cheaper. This whole thing with build affordable housing is beyond stupid, yeah give the people cheap houses but can they pay their taxes and home owners insurance? As far as over prices single family homes or high rental prices beyond the facts of insurance and taxes, you can't stop greed that easy. Taxes are another issue that keep increasing no matter what.

Tell them to outlaw investment companies from buying affordable homes then you wouldn’t have a housing crises.

Didn't they have SRO's (single room occupancies) in Chicago that were quite successful? Why can't we do that in Miami and Fort Lauderdale?
