As someone living in Sydney. These are the things i realise, house prices and cost of living is insane and salary will never catch up taxation system here are meant to never make you rich. The wage gap in Australia is growing wider and wider, meaning no matter how hard you work a job, it's not enough to keep up even before inflation, more and more people might face a tough time in retirement.

Nobody cares about the working class, keep the country running and this is what you get. I don't care who the president is, the cost of living is insane.

Sad situation about the housing problem. So many people are going homeless due to not having affordable housing .

Even teachers can’t afford homes
They are going for half a million and higher
This is ridiculous

All the more reason to get serious about border breachers, illegals living in the country and tighten all immigration. We need to take care of our own first.

My ex was on the wait list in San Francisco for 5 years. We got the letter AFTER we were forced to leave. Went to Los Angeles. Got a voucher quickly through a special program but couldn't find an apartment that would take the voucher before it expired. The Section 8 system os BROKEN.

Because so many people overpaid for homes even while loan rates were low, I believe there will be a housing catastrophe because these people are in debt. If housing costs continue to drop and, for whatever reason, they can no longer afford the property and it goes into foreclosure, they have no equity since, even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I believe that many individuals will experience this, especially given the impending mass layoffs and rapidly rising living expenses.

Surprised there's a long list for free housing? Really? I'm surprised the wait isn't 50 years. I'm surprised parents aren't putting their new born onto the list.

Only way to get pushed to the top of the list is to go into a shelter and state you are homeless

There are areas of the country where the wait time is less than a year. My ex-husband is on disability. When he realized he was going to be homeless, he went searching for a town with a short waiting list and got on the list. About a month later he had an apartment and moved to that town. It is a very small, quiet rural community. Not everyone can move, but if you can, you might have a lot more luck looking is smaller communities.

Soooo maybe leave and go else where? Common sense just isn't common these days.

I tried for over a decade to simply get on a list and was unsuccessful. I was able to get Section 42 housing where I pay half of market rent and even though I appreciate the rent break it’s still a struggle. Section 8 would have put me at 30% of market rate and I would not have to struggle to pay the rent. I am thankful though because it could be worse.

The problem is investors pumping up the prices. Regulate that perhaps

Yeah, here in PA, been on the list since 2016. Finally got a call in 2022, but I had just lost my job, they quickly passed me over and not Im probably gonna be on the list for another 6 years. Oh well, I've figured things out, living with mental illness makes it hard to get a job, but also being a high functioning person means I get no help lol. Yay!

When buyers are finally ready to purchase a home, what's available to them usually isn't worth the wait. Many homeowners have for years complained about cookie-cutter homes that now dominate the real estate industry. In most communities, you can't tell one house from the next. There is hardly any differentiation. Homeowners are usually told to just pick one of three models. Then, the real estate developer hires contractors to construct the same house over and over, with slight variations, throughout the entire neighorbood as quickly as possible. Considering what has been going on, overcharging for poor-quality homes, it's no wonder people aren't in a rush to buy homes. Most homes today look like homes you can build yourself. Homeowners must demand real estate developers to do better. Homeowners want both affordable AND well-constructed homes that will last. These are homes made with all-natural materials, such as brick and stone. Buyers don't want homes completely covered in cheap vinyl.
