I have just bought a Mac Studio Display and after a couple of weeks I started noticing a 1/2 inch yellowish glare line running all along the four edges of the monitor. I have returned the machine which here in Europe costs even more than in the US. I still cannot believe this.

Thanks for this video. I'll be thinking about a Mac mini and monitor if apple does not come out with a 27" in 2025.

It's kind of amazing how Dell are almost the exact opposite of what a Mac user would go for in a computer, but their monitors are genuinely great. Been using their displays for years along side my Macs and PC's. I wouldn't touch their actual computers with a barge pole though lol.

If you want to get into the super pro level kit then Eizo and NEC are where it's at. They're reference monitor level accurate (as in they're literally reference monitors). Not for the budget minded, but if you need absolute colour accurate precision they're pretty much as good as it gets.

Thanks for the great effort

Why is NEC never mentioned

Thanks for this, but it felt this list was more for budget users than professionals or prosumers.
I would have liked to have seen the Dell UltraSharp 32 6K Monitor - U3224KBA reviewed its certainly princely as its competing with the xdr but I’m waiting for the thunderbolt monitors before spending that kind of money.

Thanks for the video - with my Macbook Air M2, how much better is the BenQ MA270U than my current Dell 2721QS? The specs (from my newbie perspective) look almost identical, but the BenQ is twice the price. That being said, when I walk through a store, the iMac's 4.5K display is 1000xnicer than my Dell so I'm wondering if the colour matching on the BenQ (and maybe something else I've overlooked) would make it worth it to me to make the switch (I can sell my Dell to someone if I do).

Thanks!

Do people honestly not know Philips? Maybe they're bigger in Europe than the US, but it's not an unheard of brand, quite the contrary.

Can you explain if there’s a difference between a 4 or 5K retina display and a 4K LG monitor or other brand? Is a retina monitor more crisp to show fine details?

Great video, always love your content
This is from my experince. When buying a monitor there are two items to consider out of the gate. Budget and utilization. You have to be realistic. List what is the top contender and why. Items you can compromise as it pertains to your utlization. For example, if you are a photographer, color accuracy, brightness and contrast. Does it matter if its build from metal? It shouldn't if you cant fit it in your budget. Are you a pro or occasional. Integration with your operating system. Size. Warranty. Support. There is no worse purchase then a "great deal".

Well, I thought I do a follow up on that Philips monitor. It turned out to be a complete piece of junk. It arrived with no USB-C to USB-C cable, and the Quickstart instructions said not to angle any more than 5° down, or the screen might fall. The picture never looked quite right on any resolution and most importantly, the freaking brightness was hopping up and down every time I changed screens or opened an app. After about an hours worth of use, I put it back in the box and sent it on his way back to its home on the shelf at Amazon.
👺🖥️

I then purchased, an ASUS 27 inch PA278CV which came with a three-year warranty for $249. works great with the MacBook M1 air right out of the box. 1440 resolution is perfect, calibrated color is excellent spot on proper USB-C to USB-C cable was included. Easy hook up charges my MacBook nicely with 65 W of power. I would strongly suggest skip the 4K and go 1440 if you have a MacBook and use the extra $200 in savings for a decent 2 terabyte SSD external drive.

Great Video. I got the ProArts 4K PA279CRV and the 1440p PA278CV to compare. So much research and arguments I've seen about how 27 inch monitors should be in 1440p or on Macs. More technically explained articles and videos suggested 1440p. I don't know if people are just convincing themselves its better because something is "4k" but ultimately I choose the 1440p version of the 27 inch. The difference is very obvious between scaling down the 4k monitor vs the native resolution of the 1440pm. Also in these monitors specifically, the 4K version colors are just off. Looks like something with the White balance that can't be adjusted. Unless you have the money to get a bigger 5K monitor, then 1440p is great. Speaking to the ProArts specifically.

One thing you may want to include, which is very important all of Amazon reviews, including the Phillips, 27 inch with over 4, 000 reviews are a combination of more than one monitor. For instance, the 27 inch which cost $399 is combined with the $239 32 inch curved in the reviews. i’m just guessing but I think the $399. 27 inch Phillips monitor that first appeared August 3, 2023 probably has fewer then 1000 actual reviews. I still purchased it though, because of the four year warranty and the compatibility with the MacBook Air M 1. should be arriving tomorrow. I’ll do a follow up keeping my fingers crossed.🤞🖥️

The Philips monitor I purchased was a

PHILIPS Creator Series 27E2F7901 27" 4K UHD IPS. The Quickstart instructions that came with it said not to lower the screen any further than 5° down or it may fall off I guess they don’t have too much confidence in this product themselves. Much happier with the ASUS PA278CV that cost only $249 and works great with much better color and not all washed out 1440 resolution 2K display is perfect for the MacBook. As Mr. Ronco used to say on his television commercial set it and forget it.

It is so ridiculous how many monitors ive gone through since i purchased my apple mac studio. I didnt really think about it when I switched from all in one mac to the studio. Ive bought and returned 6 monitors. Currently on a DELL 5K ultra wide 40in. Its great other than the matte screen. I really enjoyed the crispness of the glossy. But I cant find one that is a 40in. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions in advance!

Thanks for this video! As the newly released M4 Pro/Max are Thunderbolt 5 enabled, providing larger bandwidth, would you think Apple will upgrade their Studio Display to 5k 120Hz? It's sad that the market currently don't even have single product with 5K/high refresh rate/glossy.
