What's REALLY Inside this 12TB Gaming Hard Drive with EVERY Game?

Emulation is a complex and controversial subject, I know. Not all emulation is piracy and not all piracy is emulation. This drive is probably the most blatantly "piracy-centric" product I'll ever showcase on this channel. Kinhank sent me their Kinhank 12TB Gaming Hard Drive to review which I agreed to out of curiosity. I hadn't done a lot of research on the product and didn't realize all the baggage that came along with it.

That said, I pirated games when I was a kid in the 90s; I also saved up money to buy the games I was passionate about. Yes, buying something like this (or agreeing to review and "promote" a product like this) comes with a lot of ethical soul-searching. I feel I've contributed to the gaming community for decades, all while keeping various distanced eye on the entire darker side of the industry.

That said, I do NOT condone blatant piracy of games currently available by publishers and the developers that put their efforts into those games. I have personal ties to the industry and do not want to see people lose their livelihoods or be unable to find a job they're overly qualified for simply because the industry has to put more money into blocking piracy than hiring talented designers and developers.

With all that said, the product I showcase is here:

All games on the drive are in this spreadsheet:

If you're interested in just the UGREEN enclosure, you can get it here:

I should have added to be extra careful about buying hard drives (refurbished or anything "non-new") as in researching this video I found a lot of information about how easy it is to rewrite file tables and even spoof history of the drive. Never put sensitive data on drives like this without backups.

Something else to note is that I shot this entire video on my new iPhone 16 Pro Max. Let me know what you think about the quality. I used a new microphone as well, which is available here:

Re-iterating here because it's important: Emulation is a complex and controversial subject, I know. Not all emulation is piracy and not all piracy is emulation. I acquired a 5TB HD full of games, and it does indeed have almost every game all the way up to the Nintendo Switch even...

This is the item you would buy if you would like to uh, get all the roms without downloading them or fear of downloading them. It is ideal for a lower speced system in the living room for plug n play. But the biggest drawback for me is that it is indeed a Hard Drive and not an SSD which means it's likely a low quality HD and it's slow as well.

IT still works and works well, but I digress.

Awesome video! I’ve always wondered what these things are all about. Thanks for breaking it down. Also, it’s so good to see a new video from you.

I have one of these drives. You're one of the few reviewers to address the moral issues associated with current games being on the drive. Thank you. My daughter works in the software industry and can't find work due to all of the lay offs. Keep up the great work!!

Agree with the premise - download a game, buy a game. 👍

I'd like to be able to just afford the hard drive

I'm not a fan that it has modern and indie games still being sold. I feel like setting up retroarch on your PC would be be just as easy as plugging this in. Lol

That's a renewed hard drive. They're not near as expensive. I looked on Amazon, and that drive was $138.00 for renewed.

🙂broh, the iPhone Pro Max and the Samsung couterpart is what most bloggers with big wallets and money are using to record videos on the go when they are traveling, supposedly the image is close enough to a DSLR, of course you want to pickup a cool triaxle free floating gimble as a selfie stick, i was thinking of getting one for my next trip to Nicaragua 😎📷🌴🏡🌴

😒👍 Nice, this is the best way to preserve video games thru the centuries, drm free games on loca physical hard drives that can run on windows or linux or apple mac or any future OS, for nintendo switch and pc i would recommend they offer up those hard drvie libraries as a separte option: option 1 a little of everything, option 2 nintendo switch only, option 3 PC Only. Thats a used hard drive I recommend buying a brand new HGST or Toshiba hard drive and copying everything over, buy additional hard drives so you can hook up your family and friends. For PC you really are going to need multiple 20TB Hard Drives so Stock Up. If your selling Gaming Desktop PCs or Gaming Laptops you can hookup the new customer with some of the games by adding a hard drive or SSD to their system and set up the emulator for them, all plug and play and ready to go. If your ambitios you can open up your own Arcade and setup each custom cabinet with a gaming pc and these games. Sharing is Caring. Merrry Christmas Everyone. Let's Go!
