Game Dev Secrets: Isadora on Ice? #indiegamedev #gamedev

(I actually don't even use Godot's built in collider detection anymore, just because I find using my own detection zones much easier to debug and understand, so even if your engine /doesn't/ have some cool built-in feature, you can still make it work! and play around with all the different values that flooring can give you. you can even swap out sound effects, or visual effect based on the flooring too. different footsteps on stone vs grass - different dash smoke particles off of ice vs off of dirt, the possibilities on this one are truly endless)

The game that I'm developing as an indie game dev is called Isadora's Edge! A 2D Pixel Art platformer game, that I'm developing in the Godot Game Engine! If you're new to Godot or have any questions about Godot or game dev in general, feel free to ask me! #indiegame #gamedesign #godot #godotengine #gaming #gamedevelopment #pixelart #gameengine

This is great to make special levels too, like a fun level where your speed is faster the whole time, either only on the ground/air or all the time, and/or a challenging level by making associated time limit(s)

These shorts have been randomly showing up in my suggestions, and since I'm extra early this time, I figured I'd say a quick thanks! As a fellow game dev, a lot of the tips you give are useful! Keep sharing the good knowledge!

ANd if you raise acceleration, lower friction and raise max speed, you have orange goop from Portal 2.

the biggest game dev secret is the incredible marketing strategy of making amazing informative videos with cool looking sprites that make me curious about the game you made!

Bro is genuinely making a game from scratch, showing its development to everyone in videos, while those videos are game essays about making games. Genius 🤯

The one thing I have always wondered is simple. When making a character that can fly, or an ability that can allow a character to fly temporarily, how do you easily switch between the animations without it jumping wildly between them. Loving the series so keep it up 😊

I really respect this devs dedication to actually code the step by step process to make it graphic and digestible, subscribing and wishlisting the game ❤

small note for sticky floors.
movement will feel a lot more smooth if the player is gently slowed down to the lower max speed instead of instantly becoming slower.

Thank you so much for making this short! This feels like a really helpful tip for level design, and as someone who wants to make a side-scroller, I will certainly keep this in mind for my own game😁

The low acceleration high friction low max speed one looked like she was walking through a really really heavy gust of wind

Gotta say these shorts have always been entertaining everytime I scroll to one, and also gives a lil more knowledge everytime I do, thank you for that

You can also keep their friction the same until they touch normal ground again, so that way the ice still has effect even if they jump

Bro!

I could look at this pixel animation for hours.

When y’all release this game I WILL look at this pixel animation for hours…while I’m playing it.
