CELEBRITIES YOU DIDN’T KNOW WERE BLACK

While America may pride itself on being a melting pot, Hollywood, on the other hand, has a history of keeping things fairly homogenized (AKA: white). While actors and actresses, directors, writers, producers and film critics can all shout from the rooftop that more diversity is needed in film and TV, and clearly, it is needed, even still in the year 2015, we have yet to see any real color changes on either the big or small screens. And since Hollywood is so gosh darn white, it makes it incredibly difficult for biracial celebrities who identify as biracial, and yet are perceived solely as white.

Here are 15 celebrities you most likely didn’t know were black.

Technically, they are not black, but biracial which is why some of them could pass as white because of their extremely light-toned skin, straight hair and facial features.

If they look white, you can't fault me for saying they're white. If they look European, they are probably a lot more white than black.

The take away, we are smarter now than our forefathers and it doesn't matter!!! If the person beside you treats you like a human, treat them the same!!

I worked on a film with Jennifer Beals back in 90 in Florida and she was very kind to me. She seemed drawn to me and very comfortable. I had a strange feeling there was something more to her. Now I know for sure. :-)

They are not black, period. Bi-s can choose wherever they feel more comfortable. PS: Don't expect to cross over when the tables turn.

I see it as, if your parent is a significant color, then that's what you're considered. My mom is Portuguese and Black and looks like a Spanish woman but she considers herself black because her father is black. My dad is Native American and Black; dark as can be but has the straight nose of a white man but is considered black too. So I see myself as black overall. As long as you know your heritage then you know what to identify yourself as.

I am reading all these comments with people saying that the persons in this video are biracial. I am trying to figure out if biracial is a colour. Whether you are 1%, 10% even 25% black...you are still black. Society is the reason why these people don't embrace their 'blackness'. Yes they can pass off as Caucasian, but the end of the day they all have African genes. And you ppl need to understand that. You all make colour an issue in your country, but when it convenient the rules don't apply to specific people because they don't fit the characteristics of so call Afro Americans. Wake up people. Black is beautiful, no matter the shade. I wish everyone would accept that even my future child.

If you have a black parent you are considered black. Only in America do we not acknowledge that. It's no big deal really, just interesting.

These people have 2 parents. I think it’s ignorant and insensitive to declare them as black; which they’re not. They are (sorry I’m old school)mixed. That one drop rule is bs.

DNA does what it wants. Both of my parents are black YES. But both are also MIXED. Biracial meaning two. In most all cases the child is not 1/2 of both parents. The child is more or less of each parent. The word biracial Scientifically just does not fit. DNA it does what it wants to. I LOVE IT.
