In today’s times, depending on where you live of course, you can survive comfortably and live well with around 2-3M. Thrown into a HYSA at 5%. 1-150k a year without touching principal.

Maybe if you live in a high cost of living area like NY or CA 4/5M would be more comfortable. But I know here in VA, I can live like a king with 100k a year no problem

Where I live in Southern Illinois. In a city of 50, 000, so not farm land. I live really poor and can say with confidence that if you can't live fairly comfortably off 4 grand a month, there's a problem

And if you have 100k invested you get a lousy 5k After tax it’s $3500 and after inflation at 2% it’s $1400 at 3% it’s $350 it’s misarable
