The upper limit for acetaminophen is 4000mg in 24hrs, but manufacturers say 3000mg to be safe. Sometimes extra strength acetaminophen is 500mg, so taking two tablets multiple times a day may hit that limit. As mentioned, be aware of other products that have acetaminophen, including prescription medications like Norco, Percocet, and some codeine formulations.

My friend was in the coast guard stationed in Alaska, he said by far (like 95%) rescues were primarily to rescue people in the back country of Alaska who overdosed on Tylenol or ibuprofen because of lack of sunlight. People would get an ache, often amplified by depression from no sun, take pain reliever, feel another ache after 30 minutes, don’t have a good way to naturally detect passage of time and don’t check the clock, then take more. A couple hours later they’ve taken 8-10 pain reliever and have to call for medical rescue.

Don’t forget the delayed symptoms of liver damage can take 2 days to show. So if you find out someone ODed, just because they seem fine they aren’t, get them in. Ironically one of the symptoms of Tylenol OD is pain, but it’s often dulled by the Tylenol actually working. Liver damage takes a bit for enough symptoms for someone to go in, and would take a little while for labs to pick it up too so you might be in for a couple hours which sucks.

in sri lanka you can buy paracitamol in any grocery store.
companies aggressively market parasitamol as a pain reliver without telling people about side effects.

we have a lots of deaths from liver failing.

I know someone who, as a teen, tried to ivwrdose on Tylenol....and never told anyone or called for help.... fortunately it reayllt upset his stomach, and he threw up shortly thereafter, which seems ro have saved him from a serious overdose

Caused my mother's passing because script meds were too expensive for her RA so popping Tylenol like chiclets until her liver was too scarred to function.

Kinda crazy to me that these products arent forced to have huge warning labels on the bottle the same kind as the ones on cigarette packages.

I took 50 grams in an intentional overdose and i was so unwell, i was in ICU for 3 days and needed 3 bags of NAC. It was painful, gross, and emotionally traumatic. It was my 32nd suicide attempt, I haven’t attempted since.

I think it’s wild that they sell Acetaminophen as Paracetamol in different markets, and that both of those names are different abbreviations for its full chemical name.

Acetaminophen is definitely a silent killer. My uncle accidentally lost his liver for that exact reason you mentioned, he didnt realize it was in small amounts in multiple things he was taking.

Thank you for teaching me this. My best friend tried to end his life by overdosing on Tylenol. Having this information is definitely something not a lot of people will ever appreciate but it is something they never know that they one day might desperately need.
