Kia EV6 AWD Drag Racing a Tesla Model Y Long Range and Model Y Performance

Video drag racing two Tesla Model Ys in my Kia EV6 Wind AWD at Dominion Raceway this past weekend. The drag race with the Tesla Model Y Long Range was fairly close, but I was faster in my Kia EV6 Wind AWD from 0-50 mph or so, which gave me the win. Against the Tesla Model Y Performance, the drag race was closer than I thought it would be with my Kia EV6 Wind AWD. We were very close until around 40 mph, but after that the Tesla Model Y Performance pulled away. Let me know your thoughts on the drag races!

The Electric Vehicle Fall Festival was great too. I met a lot of nice people, gave a bunch of rides around the road course, and did some drag racing. Stay tuned for more videos from the event!

I was definitely surprised by the long range MY race. I was sure that the EV6 would get smoked. Cool.

Great no nonsense video. Simple and to the point. Thank you.

Ordered an EV6, currently driving a Model Y. I can tell you, if you get two people with equal reactions the Model Y will blow that EV6 aside. I prefer the cabin of the EV6 and obviously the looks but you have to respect the raw power of the Model Y. Telsa driver slam on the pedal to the floor next time, dont depress slowly.

Race the EV6 GT vs the model Y performance. Nobody has it on YouTube. That's the race we all want to see!

Nice comparison. Curious why the passenger side window wasn't rolled up completely to eliminate any drag.

What app did you use to get the OBD2 data on the dash?

Rumours are Kia may even offer a power upgrade for the AWD, just like Tesla and Polestar have done. Imagine it then. 🤔 Plus can’t wait to see the EV6 GT via the MY performance. Based on this the GT will destroy the MY performance. Reviewers in Europe have been blown away by its acceleration. Love the channel.

Is that the car scanner app on your screen? Is that via Android auto? Or Apple?

You had lower reaction than the YP, maybe 0.1 to 0.2 seconds it seems like.
Did you get the papers from the dragrace?

Did you have to do anything special to get CarScanner to show up? Is that Android Auto or Apple CarPlay you’re using to get it up there?

Any chance you can line up the Model Y LR and Performance? I want to see how close of a race it is between the trims. Looking at the performance version bc it can be available within the month.

The plaid is the top end Tesla so i think this is a fair comparison

Surprised? He was 3-4 car lengths ahead of you 😁.

Nicely done. I've been looking at the Kia EV6 GT in place of the Tesla Model Y Performance primarily because of the drama surrounding EM. I began researching and searching for a reasonable priced alternative. On paper, the EV6 GT makes a great case as an alternative to the Tesla performance versions. It will be great to see what is actually delivered. Given I've seen the AWD Wind version of the EV6, I know you are limited on the top end, but if you have the ability to provide your 0-60 times that would be great.

I also would like to know your thoughts on the EV6 as an everyday driver.

That looked really weak for the MYP. Was he low on charge?

EV6 looks like a very nice car. Kia (non-gt)and ioniq have great initial acceleration off the line until 20-30 but they fade quickly after that on top your reaction time is better than the other driver both times. Still Model Y LR was catching up fast and would have beaten you easily if you didn't stop at 50mph and MYP was not close it was like you were standing still.

On the other hand I think all of these evs are very fast in everyday driving conditions and even your EV6is way more than one needs.

Wow, i didn't thought that the Kia Ev6 Awd is that fast. I looked at some measurements and Videos and this thing is a beast from 0-40mph. Was this a quarter mile or 1/8 mile? I ordered a Y Sr and although it's 100kg lighter and with 300hp nearly as strong it would loose from standing still enormous, not even a competition. But it seems that after about 50mph the Sr (after 40mph, 3sr and Y sr are about the same) is maybe a bit faster at least not slower, don't know what happens after 60mph, from Videos they could be pretty even to 100mph (Y Sr was 0.4s slower but it was only on 20% Soc, maybe that makes a difference, but since these where only Videos i don't know if there is a gradient). Maybe you could make a measurement with a Dragy or better a Racebox Device from 60-100mph. I own both Devices and can only recommend Racebox Mini it doesn't cost much more and corrects gradients and is so much better built.
