Your first skeleton doll, with the big head and eyes that switch, is a Blythe. These ones are just ball jointed dolls 💚💚 still cute, fun to collect and use in doll photography though. I'm seriously tempted to get the skeleton you opened last time 😁

This is just a ball jointed doll, not a Blythe. The sponge is, indeed, basically a magic eraser. A lot of people use them (typically dry) to clean resin dolls, so a lot of AliExpress sellers include them as a gift. Also, just a note that most dolls from Ali are going to be recasts (knockoffs, basically) and a lot of people really look down on buying them. I personally started with recasts, but have since decided that I’m really not comfortable with the ethics of recasting so I no longer buy them. I don’t really judge people who do, but there are a lot of people out there who are strongly anti-recast.

The Blythe doll was first made in the early 1970s. It's distinguishing feature is the big head with the eye ring that can be pulled to change the color and direction of the doll's eyes. Blythe's face was loosely modelled after Margaret Keane's 'big eyes' paintings of children. The original Blythe body was very similar to a Skipper body in size and dimensions, and with just the 5 joints -- legs, arms and neck. 'Official' Blythe dolls new in the box still have this simple body.
Some modern Blythe clones aka knockoffs aka unlicensed replicas aka factory doll -- and I own a few because they're so reasonably priced -- are sold with a jointed body that is larger. That's fun, because it makes the doll more posable.

The magic eraser/sponge that is included is to remove possoble stains that may come from handling etc

I’m guessing you get the magic eraser sponge to keep the doll clean because magic eraser sponges are amazing for dirt, scuffs and marks on plastic and rubber. I use them to clean my shoes. Makes the rubber so white and clean it’s like new. I could be wrong but because I know people use them to clean shoe rims and soles, that’s the only thing that makes sense to me lol

I own 8 BJD's, and the sponge you get with the doll is to clean the resin(what the doll is made off), if it gets dirty, without removing the paint on it! That's what it's for. For you to simply clean the doll without damaging the resin, or the pain on it. Hope this helps!

NECA does Gremlins figures. For their Mogwais they have a mechanism where the eyes can move. No need of clay.

That smell you get when you first unbox them is the smell of the paint and sealant. They usually box them up as soon as it dries so that smell gets trapped in the box but will dissipate after a copy hours. 🙂

A bent paperclip over the little stemmy things on the back of the eyes instead of the clay should let you move each eye

My daughter has a tween LOL doll that’s ball jointed and it comes with a little back pack.. that can be an option for your lil guys!

It's a magic eraser to clean the resin for the dolls safely.

ALso, as a part of the BJD community, getting dolls from a 3rd party sellar, like Allieexpress is really frowned upon as they are typically recasts, or stolen art from real artists. I would avoid using them in the future.

As a BJD collector for more than 11 years, I have to tell you that most of the dolls from Ali Express, unfortunately, are not original dolls, meaning that the seller from Ali Express stole the mold and copied it from the artist or company. I hope you find the real artist and buy from them . This is better for you, and so that you are welcome in the BJD community. I do not attack you, but I only advise you, no more, because I love you and your channel.
