Using a prong collar properly is like learning not to stick a fork in an outlet—it's all about preventing bad habits, not causing pain

Another good tip is starting before you walk out the front door. If he/she tries to walk/run out the door before you, stop them, make them sit, and wait till you're ready, then walk out together. It teaches them just because the door opens don't mean they can just run outside and pull your arm. Also, it sets the tone for the walk that you are leading, not them. I hope this makes sense.

Far-out, thank you. I have struggled with how to correct this. Both my dogs can do it. But really struggle to focus when we start our walks. They come right when they settle down. I'm certain to do this now. I'm really grateful, man. Thanks.

A prong collar is not meant to be painful at all, it’s only when you’re using it incorrectly that it would cause pain.

That is exactly right, but make sure you either give your dog high praises, treats, or his favorite toy for doing it correctly

Its amazing how ALL these trainers use treats to train yet i have taught every dog i have owned so much without treats. I get needing treats for complicated things but something as simple as not pulling shouldn't need a treat. It just requires you to take charge when walking the dog. Eventually you will both reach a point of understanding where the dog never pulls on the leash. Eventually is not months later, it could even be within that same walk.

Man the quickest way to do that when they pull hard u stop in place. What they will do is sit down. You do that every time they pull as a form of correction . It just teaches them that heavy pulling will stop the walk

Good advice. This is how my dog training club teaches owners how to deal with pulling.😊

This has worked so well for me and my Doberman as well, which I'd heard could be notorious pullers as well. No e-collar or prong needed (thankfully illegal where live) I've even used similar methods to halter train my horses in the past, long before I got my dog. It's even worked on my cat (but with no leash) just treats and engagement.

I did this with my dog but would do light/ gentle pulls for basic things like if I wanted her to stop sniffing and keep walking and would only do aggressive pulls like that when I wanted her attention immediately or she was being stubborn. It saves the neck.

Thank you! I can't wait to put this into practice! Cause frfr, I was "not going to take him for a walk anymore!" ...but for real this time.
