I’m curious how the US forest service does it 😁

KEEP IN MIND: this ONLY works for copper plugs. Platinum or iridium plugs come pre gapped. If you try and gap them yourself with feeler guages or the tool used in this video, you will break the very very brittle tips off the plugs and then they're junk. If the gap out of the box is visibly off, return it and get another one, don't try and adjust the gap yourself for platinum or iridium plugs

I legitimately thought the hole was for your keyring lmfao I always keep one on my keychain I've always just slipped the spark plug onto the smallest end of the tool and forcefully slid it around the tool to the desired gap lol I've never had to close the gap because I don't open it to far the way I do it and have never had a single issue doing it this way 😅

I have probably 9 of these tools. I always think I'll put it here so I can use it later. Never to be found again. Basically once a year I empty ~$2 out of my cup holder for one of these. I think the 10mm should be second to the gapper as far as most lost tool.

I was 6 or 7 when I discovered this tool and how it worked. My uncle was a backyard mechanic. He fixed ANYTHING with an engine. One day I was looking in his toolbox and I found an old key ring with all kinds of tools like this on it. I asked him what the medallion was and he told me and so I tried it out. He told me that little key ring held some of his most important tools in his toolbox. I was always amazed that a key ring with a bunch of random looking keys and charms and what nots was something he considered most valuable. Especially when I woukd look at ALL of his tools in his garage. I love your videos man. I REALLY do. I have started acquiring so many little tools and things because of your videos thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us.

I’m pretty sure I’ve heard that gapping was only important before they started wrapping the plug end in cardboard to keep it from bouncing on the tip in the packaging. But I could definitely be wrong.

My father pass when I was young. Your videos feel like things he might of taught me if he had survived. So I deeply appreciate the lessons.

Why is this labeled a hack? It’s a tool that is specifically made for that

As a mechanic it's nice to see you teach this because a lot of people don't know how to use the sparkplug coin. When I first got one I thought the hole in it was for a Keychain haha

Something just doesn’t sit right with me when you tap them to close the point

The tool is very clever. It's for bending the side electrode, not the centre one. The hole avoids applying pressure to the centre part (often a little lump) of the side electrode. As shown in the video, it presses against the outer part of the spark plug near the thread. If you learn to use this tool properly, you will avoid centre electrode damage from prying on the centre electrode with a coin or screwdriver.
