These days, "earnings" don't mean much. "Buying power", means more. 40 years ago, a person to earning 50K a year, could qualify for a mortgage, to afford to buy a small house. Today, earning 50k a year, can't buy you a refrigerator box, in a nice neighborhood.

So is 50-125k individual income or household income?

There is a MASSIVE difference between a family of 4 at $50k income vs a single guy at $125k and they can't even be remotely considered the same class.

9:00 So true! I do HVAC service work, Nearly 6 figure compensation from my job, own the small house I live in and 2 rental properties, yet get looked down on by fake rich people who are droning in debt living paycheck to paycheck to maintain their lifestyle.

I never considered myself in anything higher than middle class, but in watching this video, I apparently must be. I'm so thankful I was never a greedy person or I thought personal wealth was important to impress people. I own my own home, have no debt, and other than basic living expenses, I rarely spend more than $20 a week on anything. I live a comfortable life, and I'm not a tightwad. I've always believed in how, money deserves respect, and if you take care of your money, it will take care of you

Love this video because it is spot on. It's about mindset and taking action. There are different levels to middle class also though.

I've studied and researched this topic extensively. The video is a good overview but not all-encompassing. One glaring deficiency is adjusting for household size. A single person making $100, 000 per year would be on the lower edge of the upper-middle-class on that variable alone as they make double the median income for a single person. In short, the "middle class" blows their money on crap...they are the "consumption" class that drives about 2/3 of our GDP.

When you say, "I wanna be an employee, I fear taking risks" or say "maturity is getting a job"... You are not just middle class but also below average. Your mindset puts you out of the the middle class to higher class when you say, "I'm going for entrepreneurship, I'm taking the risk, I'm not gonna just be another 9 to 5 person". then you aren't anymore middle class as because you take instant actions which changes your class to higher. Takes time but it is maturity to say, "I'm not gonna be another copy of average people, I'm gonna make a legacy"

I would say these traits apply to both poor and middle class. Middles class is a political illusion. It's for people who don't want to be called poor but who are smart enough to know they aren't rich. That's why the income range is so big, it's to get as much and to appeal to as many voters as possible. 125k pretax income isnt alot and 50k is survival money.
