I just watched a Russian mention how India took advantage of them during the collapse of the Soviet Union. With the massive depreciation of the ruble at the time, India repaid a large debt to the Soviet Union in rubles, which had lost most of their value. India felt proud of this, but it deeply hurt the Russians, and they have never forgotten it. Indians saw themselves as clever for doing this. Later, Putin offered India a deal of $1 for an aircraft carrier to get them hooked, but in the end, it cost over $3 billion, along with other arms deals, to recover the money for Russia.
