Dangerous Landing Approach | Indian Air Force IL-76

Manoeuvring this beast through the high altitude mountain cliffs in Ladakh region of India is not an easy task. The Indian Air Force air warriors fly many of these IL-76 day in and day out every single day in the region to maintain the logistics smooth and easy for our forces deployed at these remote areas. It's a short video but I filmed this aircraft after 9 years.

You've not covered the "dangerous" or "landing". What makes it dangerous is unlike other airports where you get a straight in approach with at least a 5 mile margin to lineup with the runway, in Leh you have to overfly the airport in between two cliffs while descending down from 12, 500ft to 9000ft- keeping a margin of a 1000ft feet from ground- and turning left into the narrow valley. The altitude makes it particularly easy to stall with the thinner air and lower speeds. The landing speed is considerably higher too otherwise you won't get enough lift. In case you need to cancel the approach or make a go-around, a wrong, too slow or too fast turn would put you into a mountain.
No margin of error is allowed.
