F1's engine war never stops. So of the current engines on the grid - Ferrari, Mercedes, Honda and Renault - which one is the most powerful? Here's how they all compare in 2023

There's a reason why no one wants Renault engines I guess

Let me guess without watching. It’s not Renault.

EDIT: I’m shocked 😂 It wasn’t Renault

Switching to Honda is RedBulls best decision ever

Engine weight and size is another factor.

I believe Honda has the best Hybrid and recover system which is one of the seperators

Peak horsepower is a pretty useless figure with these engines. Honda made huge gains with the power recovery from the MGU-H. As the MGU-H isnt limited at power recovery it isnt a factor in peak horsepower but it is a huge factor in how long peak power is available. Years ago we all heard Honda drivers complaine about clipping, never heard that being a issue for Honda. Mercedes had some problems with it lately.

Honda 100% has the best engine now all things considered. Their reliability has also been incredible.

Crazy these bespoke complex engines are within 2hp of each other

The Honda is the best unit - the most power for the most reliability. Ferrari have to turn down their engine for reliability reasons, Mercedes too to a lesser degree.

All things considered I think it’s pretty clear who has the most powerful usable engine is the Honda

Mercedes and Honda's reliability are superb.

I'd say most important is the reliability. Doesn't matter how fast it is if you do not finish at all! So many races that could have been, when the engine gave up.

I remember Red Bull getting shit for switching to Honda
And them doubling down that they won the 4 titles despite renault not with how vindicated must they feel seeing that engine performance particularly in 2022

I feel like package size is a big factor you missed here. It can be massive for aero if the engine cover can flow with the body work and its something Redbull Honda have done very well

horsepower is a bigger limit than engine torque, Honda has the most linear torque curve thats why they dominate in slow corner exits, Mercedes and Ferrari probably has the same peak but Mercedes probably deploying it at lower rpm

Ferrari reliability+strategy is the most dangerous duo in the world

Would like to see the calculations used to determine a particular cars hp; there's so many variables behind assessing how that translates into car performance it must be some pretty complicated stuff. I mean - slow corner exits would be no use as suspension geometry, differential performance and gearing have a great effect on traction, ; long straights also massively affected by aerodynamic drag that doesn't necessarily translate to downforce through corners... @TheRace should publish how it's arrived at...

Area under the curve is often more relevant to better lap times than peak power.

I honestly forget the Reault is still a thing
