Have Tesla Solar & Powerwalls? Stop using the Tesla App!

If you don't know about connecting directly to the Tesla Energy Gateway, you definitely need to watch this video. Its much more accurate, and allows you to connect to your powerwalls in the event the power AND wifi/cellular goes down. Even if you don't have a dedicated device for this, you should learn how to connect to the TEG before you lose power.

Because of this video I stop freaking out because my Tesla app didn't show me any powerwall energy flow and in the app said Stand by but when I did this it said that it was powering the home, thanks for this.

Thanks for the info, especially your tesla link in your comments (last 5 digits of powerwall PW given inside the inverter is now used, not the full PW). Also, you don't need to connect to the wifi being broadcast by the powerwall (although that works). Once you've connected the powerwall/inverter to your local network, you can find the IP it was assigned by your router, then connect directly to that IP (it's useful to assign the gateway a fixed IP in your router so it doesn't change over time). If you use your local network IP then any computer on your local network can access the gateway. Also, I have the tesla backup switch installed (not the gateway), but that doesn't seem to matter.

Our power wall is in the shed and I've not been able to connect to the Tesla network from within the house, possibly because of the steel walls blocking the signal. I do however have a separate router in the shed, same internet connection but different router. If I connect to the powerwall through that router in the shed, which is a separate network and router to which we connect in the house, can we still use that app in the house using the house router/network?

As 9/14/2023 tesla no longer supports web-based monitoring unfortunately. Lost my monitoring today. You get redirected to using the Tesla-pros app. Trying to find a good view through that but the UI is limited.

Any idea how to connect to the powerwall if I don't know the email address originally associated with it? I am renting a house from someone who just purchased the house as an investment. So neither of us know who installed the powerwall originally or the email associated.

How come when I monitor via the website, like you demonstrated, I get negative values? I see -1.7 kW to Grid and -1.7 kW on house (using 0 kW) and the max kW it seems to show is 2.3kW. I never see real accurate numbers when I view via the Gateway directly.

Thanks. I had issues with entering the new password. The instructions say to toggle the PW, then enter the password. Didn't work for me until I switched off the PW, then entered the new password, which was then accepted, then turned the PW back on.

Unfortunately, monitoring is all you can do. Anything else, such as exercising any kind of control involves using the App, and the App requires internet access.

This worked GREAT!! But now last week 3-1-22 it stopped working and would not let me sign back in using the password. Is this because the gateway is on 3G? please let me know, i am sure a updated video would be great to share with your followers.
