That finish is ridiculous. You shouldn't be able to do that. Lacquer should adhere to substrate. That is not proper Lacquer.

I can’t believe an authentic Fender did that. Oh well at least it makes the refinishing process easier.

Not sure how something can be so satisfying and horrifying at the same time.

That what happens when you strip a poly finish with a heat gun, comes off really clean.

Kinda amazed by how beautiful that guitar looks underneath all that finish.

This was caused due to a incompatibility in Fenders sealant and poly, it’s common on fender guitars made through the late 90’s and 2000’s.

Not a fake guitar, very high end models from that time period have the same thing happen.

That wood is beautiful! Just put a non yellowing clear coat on it and put it back together.

That's the 70's Polyester ! Not to be confused with the Poly Urethane of today .

I had a '66 Mustang bass I did it to and it turned out beautifully.

It is normal, some years ago they made mistakes in finishing and when they understood the problem, a large quantity of guitars were already sold. Actually they do not have this problem.

I stripped a Jazz body. It did not go that easy. The flat part wasn't too bad, but had to put heat on most of it. And it was a lot thicker than that.
