In case anyone is wondering, freeing the dragon skips you having to clear the bridge of enemies as the dragon will do that for you. Not to mention the dragon fight itself.

the most annoying shit ever, no matter what you choose. kill the dragon, or free it, both are a pain in the ass to do. who has time to figure out a complicated puzzle with a dragon spouting green venom at them and their friends, and with qunari throwing their fucking spears at the back of your head why you try to twist the spinny flames into the right order?
