In the US it's referred to as "power raking" or "dethatching". It works a treat, but unfortunately with the big maple tree in my front lawn, I'm stuck having to rake it by hand because of the surface level roots that could damage any power equipment. And brother you're not wrong, it's absolutely backbreaking work.

My lawn is 40 years old and I have Dew worms in my lawn that cause bumps of soil the size of golf balls. Should I scarify to level lawn? I understand that sacrificing will not get rid of the Dew worms, but I feel i should scarify and over seed the lawn.

Just one thing do I need to mow the lawn before scarifying? I have 2 attachments on my electric scarifier 1. Raker 2. Aerator which looks similar to what you had on your machine, the Raker is tines, do I used both and which one first? Sorry for all the questions I'm new to this

why scarify over dethatching? Won't both achieve close to the same results? I thought scarifying was only for when you need to cut into the actual dirt, such as when overseeding. Seems like using a dethatcher would be more productive.

What is the difference between Scarifier and detatcher ?

If I’m going to dethatch and then scarify, is it best to give the lawn a good deep watering a few days in advance so the lawn/soil is damp when I do it or is it best for it to be dryer? I’ve heard some people say you don’t want the lawn/soil to be damp when you dethatch but you do want it to be damp when you scarify. Your opinion on that? Thanks in advance

Hi, thanks for the great vid, Would you recommend Aerating the lawn before doing this. I was looking at doing aerating and the scarifying in the next couple of weeks.
