Great job helping advance the art and science of coffee!!! Yes was very wired after getting new espresso machine and dialing in my home roast. After about 5 shots of espresso making sure to spit out the shot and rinsing with water, I had no sleep that night. I'm curious about decaf blends and caffeine content. That said great job planning this out and executing the plan.

Before seeing the end of this, I read years ago that espresso is actually very low in caffeine due to the fact that the coffee isn't in contact with the liquid long enough to "extract " much
caffeine. Interested in your results! Good job!

Thanks for doing this test. You must have spent lot of time and money to run this experiment. Much appreciated. Very interesting test results. Btw the only time had too much caffeine was when I was in college and a group of us would meet and study at local coffee shop. That shop had a rule that you could sit only up to an hour. So we were forced to order something every hour, which I obeyed. Ended up ordering five cappuccinos. I think I was trying to impress someone back then 😂

I have suspected it's often all over the place as I've had decaf that has given me the jitters, but can sip on flat whites the entire day.

Grat work Marc. A regular drip machine, ok what’s regular, would have been nice for some comparison to high end real coffee drinkers, like your viewers and say a new viewer looking to upgrade to something more, say specialty to them. Enjoyed the video, stay cool. And as my lovely sister would say, “Peace out, ” 🤞😉☕️☕️

I dabbled in home roasting, and did a trade with a guy for some ROBUSTA beans. I roasted them and blended with Sulawesi and Costa Rica 10% robusta, it was absolutely rocket fuel!!

And I have that Academia. And it’s amazing.

Interesting, James Hoffmann measured 50% more caffeine compared to his espresso’s, which on average landed at 110mg of caffeine, using a dose of 18g on both. Maybe he was using a more lightly roasted single origin, not a medium roast blend - which requires more beans for the same weight, and therefore more caffeine. Good thing I mostly drink light roasts and at a lower dose of 15g!

Love your videos, Mark! Recently bought the Academia from Whole Latte Love because of this content.

Question, would a 4 ounce shot of espesso have twice as much caffeine as a 2 ounce? Or is there diminishing results (1st ounce 85mg, second 80mg, third 70mg, fourth 50mg?😊

If i understand correctly with the total caffeine content calculated the drink type is irrelevant and the same amount (~175mg) is in a double shot, cortado, cappuccino, latte, etc. Is this correct?

thanks for the info!
What about an aeropress?
Also, what about decaf? I've heard there are big differences...

How much caffeine is in a 3-cup mocha pot? I use 150ml water with 18g of medium roast coffee. The final yield is about 100ml of coffee. I love the taste and body of the mocha pot coffee but the 3-cup feels too little to me. I'm tempted to do the 6-cup version which should yield 200ml of coffee for about 26-30g of coffee but I worry that it might have too much caffeine. Thanks

Hi! Came across this and have done some research online, but would love help from the experts. I have a Gaggia classic pro 2019 and my shots are coming through way too fast! It appears as if there is nothing restricting the pressure and water is free flowing straight through the machine. Would love any troubleshooting tips or if you know of someone that has come across this!
