This is a very early process that Brunswick experienced with I think called Light Ray that was quickly recognized as being deplorable. This sound also exists on Brunswick numbers approximately 2800-2999--beginning with 3000 they are fully electric and no longer have this tinny sound.

If Aeolian-Vocalion was already part of the Brunswick-Balke-Collander company when this side was make, it's pretty likely that this is a Brunswick "Light Ray" electrical recording. And they are well known for their poor sound quality.

Is it electric or acoustic, or some odd hybrid of the two? Maybe they just stuck a loud-speaker down the recording horn :-)
