Glaucoma is the condition of the eye whereby the main nerve of eye which is known as the optic nerve starts getting damaged the optic nerve is the nerve which connects to the brain now in glaucoma quite a lot of times the pressure within the eye starts to go up when the pressure within the eye goes up its starts putting on the optic nerve and then the optic nerve gets damaged as a result of that. There could be situations where the pressure may not be high but still the optic nerve can keep getting damaged as well or a period of time and such conditions we need to take care even there by reducing the eye pressure even though the pressure is still normal. So as definition goes glaucoma we say when there is loss of vision because of damage to the optic nerve with or without increase of the eye pressure.
Broadly speaking there are two types of glaucoma, one type of glaucoma is called open angle glaucoma and another type is called closed angle glaucoma or Narrow angle glaucoma. A child can have glaucoma and such a condition is called as buphthalmos or Juvenile glaucoma when it occurs in slightly younger children. So glaucoma can do occur in younger children, in infants as well as adult and the whole gamut of range of glaucoma can present in any situation and at any age. Most commonly glaucoma is seen in people above 40 years of age.
Unfortunately glaucoma is a condition just like diabetes and hypertension where we do not have the cure for the condition. However, what is possible with glaucoma is a control of glaucoma so what do we do in control you give either eye medication in the form of eye drops, tablet or we do laser or surgery is a whole lot of range of treatment options are available to the patient Whenever we exercise any of these options like say we are giving him a medication in the form of eye drops the patient will have to be on these medications more and less lifelong and even when a surgery is done the intention is to lower the intraoral pressure so that the control of glaucoma is achieved, in no scenario on with no treatment can the glaucoma be cured there is lot people lot of crap especially in Alternative forms of medicine where the claim treatment of permanent treatment as well as a cure for glaucoma. I would request people not to fall prey to touch tall claims and the science has advanced so much despite that we still don’t have cure and whoever is promising your cure for glaucoma are simply taking you for ride. Glaucoma causes lot of Blindness.11 million people in India turn blind due to glaucoma. This blindness caused is irreversible. Blindness happens over a period of time and is not sudden. Peripheral vision or side vision starts to shrink over a period of time and then slowly the vision keeps coming down and ultimately the end stage of the disease blindness is what it results in.

I want his last years to be happy and full of knowledge and beautiful scenery etc. he loves to read but needs a magnifying glass to do so. I’m in search of something larger. Please help?
