As someone who has driven Audi's most of his life, readers will be surprised to find my take. It is fair to say the Macan is by far the best luxury compact SUV in its segment. By comparison, the Audi Q5 3.0 (V6) offers 272 hp with an exterior and interior that dates back nearly six years (with some minor refinements). The Macan S has underneath its hood a V6 twin-turbo producing 340hp with a base price only slightly higher than the Q5 (49, 900). The PDK (Porsche's double clutch transmission) is far superior to Audi's traditional 8-speed transmission. The gears transition quicker and smoother. One look at the vehicle's interior and you'll be reminded by the benchmark of sports cars (the 911). The combined effect of sport and luxury is magnificent. If you are in the market for a compact luxury SUV, the Macan is the optimal choice.The hurdle is getting one as they are (rightfully so) very difficult to come by currently at dealerships.

Love the Macan, and I agree with some of the comments. You will pay top dollar for a Porsche, but they make some of the best performance cars in the world. "Value" is not part of that equation.

The price difference might look like $22, 000. Actually if you fit the Macan S with all of the options that come with the Turbo such as the alcantara headliner, PASM, Body color side blade, aluminum interior package, 14 way heated front partial leather seats with leather package, infotainment package, Bose audio package, heated steering wheel, painted rear facia, and active lighting package; the price difference is really $9, 000. For that you get 20 horsepower, 70 lb-ft of torque, and more aggressive styling with no downsides, plus some other options are reduced price, I think that's worth it when you are already paying that much for it

For all the people complaining about price, it's not that bad. Buy a porsche for what it is: Base S model for a tick over 50 grand, and NO OPTIONS. And you will have the best crossover 52K can buy. End of story.

I noticed that the Macan S and Cayenne S are the lowest available designations for these models, do you know if there are plans to release a plain-old Macan/Cayenne without standard AWD at a lower price point in the future?

Porsche is doing an excellent job throughout all its offerings and will be the first automaker to offer a hybrid variant of every model. No alphanumerics, easy to understand trim levels, your choice of options...they just need to separate the Carrera/911 line up and put out a compact sedan because I'm sick of the 3-series being the benchmark.
