My neighbor's son who graduated with my son, was the smartest kid with the highest SATs on the football team, and as such was accepted to Cornell on a partial scholarship. Alternatively he was offered a full ride at a more local smaller state school. Since he was going to be an accounting major, his mom (wisely) made him choose the smaller state school because in the end, the free education for an accounting major made infinitely more long term financial sense. Kudos to both of them!

School teaches knowledge, but life requires Wisdom. We should never mistake knowledge for wisdom. If you expected the school to teach you everything, this was your first big mistake in life 🖖

In the United States, community colleges (once commonly called junior colleges), are primarily two-year public institutions of tertiary education. Many community colleges also offer remedial education, GEDs, high school diplomas, technical degrees and certificates, and a limited number of 4-year degrees.

You have to consider that a lot of ivy students come from well rounded families that can afford the education

Here's a thought, associate's degree at community college then transfer to Ivy League school, best of both worlds.

makes sense if, and only if, money is the only thing you care about. Yes, community colleges are cheaper, and for many people they’re a good option. But guess what— we knew that.

Yes, it is worth it. The network is invaluable. I went to a private university for undergrad and coached a t Princeton during grad school. No comparison. My undergrad classmates all got “decent” jobs out of college while the Princeton students are now industry leaders.

It depends on your major, anything business or finance related you should absolutely go to an ivy league, any other major.... doesn't really matter where you go

If you get in to college with higher financial goals then maybe Ivy league schools is best for you but when you just want to graduate and get the degree of the course you want then community college is a great option.

My nephew wanted to attend Vanderbilt, not for the prestige, but for his chosen degree program. He had the grades & brains, but not the bucks even with the financial assistance he was offered. He was pragmatic (and resigned) that it out of his family's financial league. He accepted an offer from a small Christian college that proved much more doable. He's now finishing his Master's degree at an in state university.
All has worked out well, bit can't help but wonder if Biden's promise for student debt relief would've taken him down a different road. That idea played well on the campaign trail, but who's gonna' pay for it? Stay tuned folks.
Regardless, his student debt is nowhere near what it could've been, plus his small Christian college BA sheepskin is just as recognized, just as valid, and I believe just as respected had it come from a lah-dee-dah institution.

PWII, it would be useful for people if you did a comparison between no-college v college.
There are growing areas where you can learn from cheap online courses & have starting pay higher than your Harvard grad—and mid-career much higher than the Harvard average.
Also very relevant for people to know is how careers are going to be affected by the 'perfect storm' of technologies maturing in the next couple of decades—especially those with expensive schooling like law, medicine, accounting etc which are likely to see huge changes.

Universities are just businesses. Your diploma means nothing if it is not from a really prestigious university like Harvard, Oxford, Stanford etc but they are pretty expensive and it's not worth it.
