I wonder why not simply 900-400=500/25 =20

The answer is 20.

Method 1.

Simplifying the squares:

30^2 = 900
20^2 = 400
5^2 = 25

900 - 400 500
= = 20
25 25

Method 2.

Using the difference of two squares.

(30 + 20)(30 - 20) (50)(10)
= =>
25 25

=> (50) ● (10) = 500

500
=> = 20
25

Why not just square 30 & 20 then subtract to find the difference, divide by 5 squared(25) = 20
900-400/25
500/25 = 20
