Climate protesters arrested after barricading NYC highway

Protesters have blocked off both of New York City's main highways Monday morning, causing massive backlogs at the height of the city's rush hour. The protesters, climate change activists from a host of organizations - including Extinction Rebellion - are currently blocking off all northbound traffic on the the city's FDR Drive, as well as southbound lanes crosstown on the West Side Highway. The protests come amid deliberations for President Joe Biden's 'Build Back Better' plan - an ambitious social spending bill that calls for federal funds to be allocated to climate change mitigation as well as child care, home health care, and paid family leave.
