3.1 Introduction to Determinants

Solving how we got the formula for determinant really confused me, but after the explanation between solving the examples washed away all the confusion I had. Great explanation.

Neat to see a connection to dot products in here. I remember in physics 1 when I stumbled onto the standard formula for dot products just by simplifying the teacher's example.

Imagining doing all that work by hand and having a 6x6 matrix is scaring me. I hope we don't get anything higher than a 5x5 matrix. I didn't realize how much work could go into finding determinates. I wonder what real life uses there are of being able to locate it? While I do understand that an existing determinate value gives credibility that the original matrix can be inverted, but is that all a determinate can do?

After working with formulas that involve cross products in calc 3 and physics its really hard to not leave the determinant as a vector.
