All you'll need to do is make an account with owner.ford.com and download your vehicle's software update onto a drive, then install the updated USB port into your car's center console. (Part #HU5Z19A387A) After that, simply plug the drive containing the update files into the center console USB, then allow it to update! After that, you're good to go!

Not true, Sync3 has the system built in, they messed up production and installed the wrong usb port that allows carplay to work. It is susposed to be installed. I got it fixed under warranty in my 2016 Focus RS.

This is great that Ford lets you do this so simply. I’ve had VWs and Audi’s for years and not once have they allowed owners to upgrade the infotainment system to get features that are on newer models.

For those complaining about car play not being good, go to your local dealer and get flogged with a $250 map update every six months.
After that you will come here with your tails folded like defeated dogs and listen to this tutorial to upgrade your ford to be car play compatible.
The problem is tha some people do not understand how the tech works.
The person who made this vid just saved me money.

I don't believe this works on the 2015 models as this didn't have Sync 3, but Sync with MyFord Touch. Do we know if this will work with that system?

I just did this to my father’s 2016 Ford Escape. Had to search around at local dealers for the hub. There are two that you can get with different part numbers, the only difference is the white or blue light around the USB port. Just follow the instructions on the Ford owners site and pop the new hub in, start her up, let the update do its thing (about 30 minutes) turn the car off and back on, and you have Apple CarPlay
