What is ignition coil dwell timing? It is an important parameter which is governed by how an ignition coil works which was covered in the previous episode.

Using an incorrect dwell time for your ignition coil could result in misfires from weak spark or damages coils from heat.

Fantastic explanation! Especially about too long of a dwell time. I'd love to hear more about how the time is adjusted (via switch?). Creating a physical on bench example would be so cool

Just to clear up what may be a misconception At 2:00 you suggest that the longer the coil primary has current through it the greater the magnetic energy stored. This isn't quite true, once the core is saturated the coil will just be generating heat. What this means is that what is required is a 'charging time' long enough to, probably, just begin saturating the core just before initiation of the ignition point. i.e. If the time to induce the maximum stored magnetic energy is 4ms then the coil should begin drawing current some 4ms before the ignition point.

Can you discuss any info you have on tuning dual SUs? I’m more interested in needle selection / spring /oil selection and rev ranges rather than balancing or the actual tuning steps. Is going DCOE triples worth it- or jumping straight into fuel injectors?
