This a sample technical training video on controlling ignition timing and is designed to provide technicians an understanding of:

- How the modern electronic ignition system controls Spark Timing and Dwell;
- The significant benefits these modern controls provide as well as the evolution of Spark Timing from mechanical and vacuum to electronic control.

0:29 Peak cylinder pressure is not at TDC, if the engine was being cranked over with the ignition system switched off then yes peak pressure would be at TDC, the mixture is ignited before TDC in order to allow time for the flame front to create peak cylinder pressure at around 14-20 degrees ATDC, this give the pressure the best overall conrod angle to create torque at the crank. In fact the graph shown at 0:34 is correct, you can see peak pressure is AFTER TDC. (There is no 'x' axis info on the graph but you can see that it is ATDC)

Dear Sir Thank you for your information about the ignition advance operation I am now writing a microcontroller for ignition advance control for my BSA lucas system to replace contact breaker

so the time it takes to burn gives the angel of the crank by the time its done

Pick-up coil is in the angle position of the crank? or the timing of the F-Mark Crank case of Magnet is given on any side of the pick-up coil magnet ?

Hi ! My stock 2009 1.25 Fiesta's timing advance jumps from 4-15° at Idle, is that normal ?

My engine is knocking just on low rpms. That mean that I advanced my ignition point just a little to much? I mean, am I on the edge zone?

Bingo....so at 13k rpm the combustion degrees is like 24°btdc ...
