Don't get the wrong idea about James Hoffman at 10:45. He does not support Nestle or single use pods, he was doing the video in part to show everyone how substandard they were, and took every opportunity to complain about the sustainability concerns

There has to be an insentive to recycle beyond the environmental aspect. In Norway we pay an extra 50 cents or whatever for soda bottles, we get that back when we shove it into a recycling machine (they're in every shop basically). So when you have like four shopping bags full of empty bottles you go down there and cash in, you get just over 10 dollars back. It's a good deal and encourages recycling greatly, you have like homeless people or whatever searching bins for bottles, you have kids doing the same for some extra cash. There's actual value in an empty plastic bottle. Same thing could be done for coffee pods.

If you are rich enough to afford a doorman you are rich enough to afford a real espresso machine and a grinder.

I used to be a Nespresso fan until I learned how to use a barista espresso machine and buying very affordable coffee beans and grinding them myself. My love for coffee grew in knowledge in how to make coffee shop quality espressos at home. I saved a lot money and became a very artsy fellow.

Can’t believe you used James Hoffman as an example of people jumping on the “Nespresso pod hype train”. He absolutely abhors pod coffee

It baffles me how Nestle still has some how such a positive brand reception despite the atrocious actions. They are one of the few brands that I have on a no buy list.

I can't believe you said "spill the tea" instead of "spill the beans" for that opening joke. Good video as always btw

I worked at a hotel that had these machines in the lobby, the suites and breakfast area, so yeah lots and lots of nespresso pods 😑 We were always super happy to see the delivery guy deliver more boxes of coffee pods because we could also give him the bags of used pods in return for recycling! I can verify that these bags really get super stinky and messy 🤢 So we always stored them in an unused tool closet in the hotel garage. So gross. Collegues would get really upset if the person receiving the coffee pod delivery forgot to give the bags in return 😂

Honestly a more sustainable but still "fancy" feeling way to make your coffee is a French press. No filters, no plastic, etc. I've saved so much money (and coffee grounds as I can make a single cup and not a whole pot) using my French press.

I was gifted a Nespresso Vertuo and quickly transitioned to refilling the pods with freshly ground coffee of my own choice and using reusable silicone lids. After getting the grind and dose dialed in, the machine makes really great coffee with no waste (I compost my grounds).

I found that switching from regular pre-ground drip coffee to a machine that grinds beans makes a huge difference in taste and aroma. And when you live in a place like Finland, where it's pretty normal to have coffee about 5 times a day, single-cup pods just sound terrifying.

I use a French press for dayly coffee but I bought a Nespresso specifically for making quick creamy espresso, which it does quite nicely. Thanks for the video as it was very informative.

This Video summarizes perfectly why we went out to by a traditional Italian espresso machine, the one which brings the most mileage with roughly 20 to 30 years of use if handled correctly.

It's not that complicated. I got my wife a vertuo plus. She loves it. Came with 30 pods. We used them. Dried them. Filled them with our own coffee. Reused them over and over. The barcode on the pod makes the experience incredibly fast and convenient. Refilling a pod and covering probably cost a dime. No waste.
If you are too lazy to do that, you're still saving a trip to a coffee shop. Saves money and the energy it takes to drive to get coffee. Depending on which machine you have it is better tasting than most traditional machines imo.
We can't be shocked every time a large corporation cuts corners to maximize profit. It's what they do. People have to take a little responsibility

I drink Nespresso because I like it. Period. I also do recycle 100% of my pods as a bonus. But if I am being honest, I drink it because it tastes good. Not for recycling purposes

TLDR: Why I like my Nespresso
For my family the biggest draw of the Nespresso vertuo is the ability to make espresso as well as full cups with only one machine that doesn't take up too much space (we have a small kitchen with limited counter space). Some of us like making our own drinks while others prefer a fast mug. We recycle all our pods and have only had a problem with the pods molding once. We usually use pods fast enough to fill bags before they get nasty. I despise companies that push the burden of recycling on to consumers but with Nespresso specifically it's so easy to recycle. We used to have a kureg and we bought supposedly compostable pods from PC. Turns out there was actually an inorganic plastic ring that made the whole product a lie. Overall I think it's the best option for us, for these reasons and possibly for others.

Whenever Nestle promise something, you know it won't make any positive impact 🤣

I like my nespresso. I like my nespresso pods I like how easy it is to use, I like how easy it is to clean. I've been using my virtuo for a long time I haven't had any problems with it. I can order my coffee online and it gets here the next day. the price doesn't bother me at all I love it

I always thought and still do that these pods were ridiculous. I calculated how much a pound of coffee cost using pods and it was something like $40. I don't think any kind of coffee is worth that much.

The advantage of pod coffee is that they allow different folks (in an office, or at home) to have different coffees: caf vs decaf, flavored or not, different roasts -- as opposed to offering one single option.
