How can I tell whether or not I need to replace the whole disk drive, or just replace the laser?

I don't want to buy the disc drive if it's just the laser, but I also don't want to just buy the laser if it's the whole disc drive that's busted 🤷‍♀

Hello, only comment is at 15:20 when putting the disc drive back together, the top left white gear should have a white knobby thing poking through which is from the side plastic sliding gear., in the video yours does not have this so I don’t think is properly aligned or gear positioned correctly . I aligned the exact same way as your video (no white knob), but ps5 would not accept my disc. After looking at pictures on another site, I realized the error and corrected.

Excellent video, thank you! My PS5 will accept discs, but after making a few noises, I get a message that says "Can't recognize disc". The discs are clean and inserted the right way. I would like to purchase a new drive, but will a new drive fix this issue, or is it a logic board malfunction? Thanks again.
