One side benefit, if you are ever unfortunate enough to be burgled... if this is found in your home office, they'll probably leave it behind. 😂

My version of sleeper is everything is powerful but low powered, meaning you dont have to modified the case but it works even when doing heavy tasks or gaming.

I built a sleeper PC end of last year, begining of this year.
I bought the case cheaply from ebay, and then I used an angle grinder to cut a hole in the bottom for ventilation, which then I covered with a 3d printed grill, I made the legs taller to allow for more air in. The case front had already a deep in the front panel which I followed the lines and cut 2/3 off and replaced with retro looking vents, I also followed the patern on the blank 5.25" and 3.5" blanks, It made it convisigly retro while still being great for cooling. The only thing giving away are the usb 3.0, usb c and card reader front panel I/O.

Edit: For anyone wondering, not the highest spec parts, but what I have: Ryzen 5 5600G, 32GB Ram 3200MHz, RTX 2080 Super, Toughpower SFX 1000W Gold (already had it coming from SFF, used an adapter with holes for extra airflow) 1x M.2, 2x Sata SSD, and 6 HDDs
Using a modded Cryorig C7 cpu cooler with a Noctua Fan on it, and 2x front panel 120mm noctua fans. No issues with cooling.

The idea of a sleeper can be done but with low power parts, like more down to earth. Its just a horrible selection of parts.

sleeper builds are great if some one at the moment can not afford all the upfront costs of that new bling bling, but need the modern tech for work, school, or gaming.

Title is "Don't build a sleeper PC", then he proceeds to show us his sleeper PC. K!

I have just realized that you remind of Eddie from my favorite show "Bottom" when he gets genius idea, you are only missing the hat

the frontpanel has holes in the bottom, can house 2 intake fans, arctic p8 for example, would probably greatly improve the temps. What many people do with sleeper builds is add intake to the bottom, as that is not visible from outside

Yep, I'm still on sleeper build things than modern RGB builds. Keep it simple and retro!

Looks like there is room for a larger front fan.
My latest AM5 kind of looks like a sleeper, as it's in an Aerocool Syclone 2 - but I will never give up on my DVD-RW drives

I would definitely mod out 2 intake fans on the bottom of the case, and then use 2 80mm fans on the back for exhaust. It would make a huge difference to temps, and still can't be seen from the outside.

People build sleeper pc's because they enjoy it. Plus there are a lot better options for old cases than what you have here.

PC builder myself, But I got to say I'm actually learning a lot from you from the little stuff you say like 'better to not use the daisy chained psu pcie cables to reduce coil whine' like I've never heard that before, and also for the ram sticks too. So thanks Computer Surgeon

Just add vents. 2x80 on the front, 2x80 on the rear. This case has mounting for it. Arctic F8 or P8 PST. Temps will be much lower.
Old case isn't always a bad case. Sometimes they are better than modern ones.

Now, do a watercooled sleeper PC build.

'I know what I'm doing'.. proceeds to overtighten cpu cooler mount with drill lmao

Well you could remove those CD and floppy drive cages to add 120mm fans.
(Maybe glue the drive front to hide the holes.
And you can put 2 fans on the back indeed
And probably 2 more fans on the side panel.

Sleeper builds are so nice to see! I used to have an i3 12100f and an rtx 2080ti in my coolermaster wavemaster 🗿
