What was the moment that you decided to look into pet insurance for your dog? 👇💬

If you’ve owned a dog without pet insurance before, you’ve probably been through the same cycle as me. Not giving it much of a thought until you’re slapped with a huge unexpected vet bill, or trying to make a difficult decision about getting a certain treatment.

Prior to getting pet insurance, I had the mentality that if I put away the money I’d spend on insurance, I’d have enough to cover any surprise vet bills. For us, it turned out that this logic was flawed for two major reasons.

Firstly, because in the first year of owning her, Winnie’s vet bills had already surpassed what I expected to save in her entire LIFETIME.

And secondly, because despite having money set aside for emergency vet bills, I STILL had the mentality of doing all I could to save it where possible - which led to me making the choice to NOT take the precaution of getting checked out that day at the emergency vet, AKA one of my biggest regrets as a dog owner.

Pet insurance can make navigating unexpected health issues like this feel a lot easier and help you feel supported, so that you can focus more on your dog instead of the toll it’s taking on your bank account.

I got pet insurance for my lab puppy. Three years later my jumper tore her acl? $5, 000 to fix. Dr warned me her other knee could also go. One year later surgery on the other knee…. Insurance company covered 90% of the bills. Almost $9, 000. Worth every penny.

I know the feeling. Lost my dog to a King Brown in central WA she stayed strong for 6 hours until we came home from work i want to believe it was so she could say goodbye i wish we had insurance to cover the costs if we did she might have made it and been sitting with me now.❤️

It scares me so much during summer when we go camping. Like, I am already scared for my own safety with the snakes around but my dog is also in so much danger as well, and also doesn't know the risk. I dont know what I would do if he was bitten😣

I’ve got a blue and a red. Both have had cruciate surgeries and their fair share of scares like yourself. I’m 30 years old and I spend $40 a month on health insurance for myself and $190 on my beautiful girls. No amount of money is out of the question when it comes to their health but having the insurance certainly helps.

Glad Winnie was alright after your scare.

Any person who brings a bundle of joy in their life should be financially prepared. Pet insurance or otherwise because all dogs lives are very precious ❤

My Red Heeler had to have 2 TPLO knee surgeries in a year ($12K spent) Sure wish I would have had the pet insurance but luckily we make enough money that cost wasn’t a factor.

I know this is a plug... But I also know I had to make the painful choice to put my own dog to sleep in 2022 because we had just renovated and id already lent quite a bit to find out what was wrong with him and all.. In the end I couldnt keep up financially and to this day it makes me angry and hurt that i could still have him living out his end of days still, if i could have afforded it. I promised myself with the next dog i would get pet insurance. Make sure you do your homework on pet insurance and especially check out reviews that do not come from the companies own websites or paid websites. Look for peoples honest opinions and reviews then choose the best pet insurance for you in your local area. In the younger days of my dogs life the vet used to allow people to book their payments and pay off bit by bit, but today they dont allow this, and many peoples pets are paying the price of high pet bills and unaffordable living.

I wish I would’ve gotten pet insurance for my blue pit bull. She’s 3 and up until last summer she was perfectly healthy. Literally overnight she had blood clots all on her abdomen. It looked like someone took a baseball bat between her legs. A week at the ER and $7, 000 later we were told she has Evans Syndrome which is a rare (for her breed) autoimmune disease. She’s currently in remission but if it comes back, thats it. 😢I’ll have to say goodbye to my soul dog. If not for my in-laws loaning us the money, I wouldn’t have been able to fight to save her life. 15yrs I’ve been fostering dogs and I’ve never met another like her. Unfortunately due to it being a preexisting condition, insurance (at this point) is essentially useless. Any future furbabies will definitely have insurance 🐾

I tested my dogs with garter snakes and was not impressed. My female liked the stink of the musk and tried rolling on the snake, my male barely glanced at the snake and was more interested in trying to get me to throw his toy for him to chase 😅
Only concerning snakes here are rattlesnakes which are shy and let you audibly know if you're threatening them. I'm so poor I have to debate if I'm going to have gas money or dog food, so if pet insurance is more than a tank of gas that's out of realm of possibilities for now.

My Winnie is nearly 4 now and touch wood we've only ever been to the vet for vaccinations, but I've always had her insured just in case, I don't know what I'd do if I lost my princess because of something stupid like money

I purchased pet insurance when my puppy came home. I couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to save my dog because of money.
