Happiness is absolutely a byproduct generated from living well, rather than something one can go seek and attain like shoes from a mall

So glad someone with credentials is saying this! Happiness is an emotion; contentment is a state of mind. No one wants to have one emotion all the time.

Can you find a way to phrase this for bipolar people, please. I'm content at the moment and can see it's a version of mindfulness, but it would sound different and alien if I was in a bipolar depressive state. It's a great summery you've done, but it'd be excellent if you could tailor it to a specific mental condition as well.

Thanks, this was useful.
Infact, I had seen this today morning, and was not able to sleep like 10min ago,
and was recollecting this, so switched on the computer, to save an offline copy.
Also, shoudl acquire better habits, and use pen and paper more.
OK, bye.

Is it possible to be content with where you're at, but still strive for more? If so, how do you explain that? Because I feel that it _is_ possible, but I have no way of explaining how, since those two things seem diametrically opposed at face value.

As I always say, if at first you don't succeed, try something else, and I'm quite content.

well… i was content with my unhappiness for too long… today i am relatively happy, but i’m mostly content…
i think we should look for happiness when we have things making us unhappy and contentment after they point.
what i mean is, i wasn’t even on the threadmill of happiness, i was just miserable, contentment can be found in complacency, which means you can be content by ignoring what makes you miserable, depressed or generally unhappy.. before you take that variable that’s makes your life miserable, content can’t be enough, but after you do, happiness will never be enough

I feel that's overly simplistic, there are emotional ruts where I at least simply just can't find 3 things to be thankful for unless I go for "at least i'm alive" but with it comes the "...but what for?"

could this be like leaving things to chance ? And sometimes on the road to what is suppose to happen, something better happens

The thing I've been told about being content and happy with your current life state is that there's a direct link between being unhappy and trying to achieve something.

In other words, how can you be ambitious and strive for more if you are happy and content where you currently are?
I've been pushed to be ambitious and never be happy where I currently am, so that I constantly try to do better and achieve more, until I reach an arbitrary goal, ie. "making it", THEN you're allowed to be content and happy where you are. So, don't be happy until you're at the top, then be happy.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on connection between ambition and unhappiness.

If your life is miserable because you are a lonely, unhealthy, generally unskilled, lethargic person this is definitely bad advice.
