Looks like you need to build some new bee boxes dude. Those there are rotten anyway lol…man it’s no wonder your bees left

I don't think beekeeping is your thing man.

Try and build something to where the hives can be off the ground, if you try to restart the apiary. The ideal is 5m (16' 4.85") but that's pretty difficult to manage, so realistically even just a few feet is good. It helps keep predators out of the hive, and should help with the ants and rats. And if you can keep them out of the brush, that should help as well. They're notoriously difficult to keep in some areas, though, especially if they're brought in from out of state. Hives can unfortunately stress easily, and if they kill the queen and don't develop a new one, they're doomed. (Don't know your case, just general issues you might be facing!) I hope you can get them thriving again if you start new hives 🥰 and at least the chickens got a nice snack out of it!

The frames looked really old. They should be rotated out because they can harbor fungus, mildew and disease.
It doesn't look like you worked your hives. If you try again position them facing south or east with a clearing in front. We had ours on cinder block s and doused the ground with diatomaceous earth (mites breed in the soil, and this prevents this)
As the bees fill the primary 2-3 hive bodies they need supers to be added, as they fill them with honey.
We always kept one on and only harvested the 2+ which were added.
We kept bees for 10 years. We only did natural pest management, or integrated pest management.
If you are talking to 10 different beekeepers, you will get 10-15 different answers! It was fun!

No wonder. Get them off the ground. Set them on bricks. Then mix Borax (Boric acid) in the soil under it. Then ants are never a problem.

I hope you choose to start over. Contact your county Extension Agent and get some professional help. I’ve been seeing honey bees working the white clover in my backyard for the first time in 5 years.

You're going to have a lot of dead bees until your bee suit is about the color of the inside of your hives.

Good thing you suited up, safety is #1 priority!

Might have caught that weird fungus that kills them off. It looks just like old houses that nobody live in anymore. They just decay and other stuff run in there.

Sugar water in the winter seasons to replace the lack of feed

You know, if you were inspecting the hives at regular frequent intervals, you could have headed both of these problems off at the pass. This is neglect, pure and simple. I feel so bad for all the bees...

1. You need better boxes in that, try some new ones.
2. Cinnamon detours ants.
3. You need to bring your hives father up off the ground and set it on a no climb stand so the mice cannot invade the hive.
Or maybe just give up beekeeping in all!

Oh noooo! :( Hopefully you can get the rats and ants under control. It's really hard when this is their home, too.

Don’t mess with your bees on cold or rainy days because they’ll be extra aggressive and pissy when you open them up.

You should feed the dead bees to the chickens and see how they like em
